Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
