While Europe cleaves ever tighter to Ukraine amid persistent threats of U.S. withdrawal, the peril is that Trump has rationalized a justifying narrative for ignoring his allies.

These developments demands a robust response from European leadership. While some figures, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have been blunt in their pushback, including the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer—have opted for a policy of seeking to placate the White House.
Recently, the UK government declined to push back on the president's remarks about Europe or his renewed attack on the mayor of London.
