Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
