The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
