Three-time award winner Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Three-time NBA MVP Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental coming together with teammate Spencer Jones.
Jones came down on the footwear of the big man, who immediately went down to the floor holding his knee.
The star, who is leading the NBA season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the severity of the injury.
"Immediately, Jokic realized there was a problem," commented Denver coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player that gets hurt, it's difficult, particularly a player as important as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, right now, I am more worried about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
