Two Victims Named in Brown University Incident as Police Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.
Two students who died in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect questioned in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.
Cook was vice-president of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow publicly, stating: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”
The Second Victim
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.
His name was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.
Details of the Attack
Nine more persons were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.
Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man detained in a raid at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.
“A perpetrator remains free,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
Community Anxiety
Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our community”.
The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official told the news agency.
Police that raided the lodging found two firearms and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, the news agency reported.
Those Hurt
Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.
A private school, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”
Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and peers,” he said.
An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
