Each have been linked with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I have a special job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Wales forward is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful Nations League performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the earliest.
